Gelato and Shimmer Tape

This month I am focusing on the Gelato and Shimmer tapes that you may not have noticed in the thread list.  They are some of my favourite creative yarns.  I have used them as backgrounds and texture in which to nestle beads, sequins and dimensional flowers. I have filled them with waste threads or cords to fatten them for purse handles or foundations for jewelry.
You could even include them in modern gold work and stumpwork or thread them into a large Chenille needle and use in the same manner as traditional ribbon work. They would be suitable for teaching your children and grandchildren to embroider when you combine them with basic stitches. There's no limit to the ideas they can be used for.

Gelato is a knitted hollow tube of rayon thread that can be filled with cords or threads for ruching, couching to add great dimension to your creative textiles. Hand Dyed in America. Sold in a 15mtr. skein.

Colour Streams hand dyed Shimmer Tape is a hollow metallic rayon tube/tape. Fabulous metallic specialty yarn for inserting cord to stiffen the tape then ruche tape along the cord for great effects. 5mt. length.

Watch my Blog Post  for a Shimmer Tape Tutorial to make a felt needlecase.

Pins and Posies - Embroidery and Cross Stitch

See my latest project in The Embroidery and Cross Stitch magazine. The Pins and Posies kit is available and it includes the jar. The mason jars are also available separately so you can design your own pincushion. Not only useful but gorgeous too!

Ribbon Delights.

• Hanah, bias cut hand-dyed silk ribbons wonderful for dimensional ribbon roses and leaves.

• French Jacquard ribbon on sale from $10.50 for half a metre!  Just perfect for trimming cushions and making little pouches for lavender.

• Mokuba ombre ribbon for ruching and small gathered flowers.  One of my favourite ribbons.

• Colour Streams hand dyed silk ribbons in 4mm., 7mm. and 13mm. for all your embroidery needs.

• Ruffly 6mm. rayon ribbon with black edges, wonderful for ribbon embroidery, ribbon roses, doll making, altered books and textile art. 4.5mtr per bowtie.

New Wool Applique Packs

A beautiful hand dyed felted wool for Weeks Dye Works. Each wool shrinks differently during felting so some pieces maybe larger than others. There are 5 felted wools (15cm. x 22cm.) , 1 wool felt (15cm. x 30cm.) and two silk velvets (7cm. x 7.5cm) per bundle. Great for raw edge applique as it doesn't fray. Add silk velvet for a shimmer and embroider with hand dyed threads for stunning effects.
